Registered Midwife | Lactation Consultant | Researcher​

Sonje Juul is a Registered Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with nearly two decades of experience supporting families across Canada and South Africa. Her practice blends compassionate, evidence-informed care with a deep respect for each family’s values and goals.

In addition to her clinical work, Sonje is completing a PhD in Health Services Research at the University of Calgary, focusing on how pregnancy care models influence perinatal outcomes—particularly preterm birth—with the goal of informing system-level improvements that reduce adverse outcomes and centre the needs of families. She is passionate about building emotionally safe care environments where families feel informed, empowered, and supported.

Registered Midwife | Educator | Advocate​

Judy DeFreitas is a Registered Midwife with two decades of experience providing comprehensive maternity care in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. She has held leadership and teaching roles within the University of British Columbia’s Department of Family Practice (Midwifery Program) as an Adjunct Professor and continues to guide students as a Clinical Faculty member.

Currently completing her Master of Science in Midwifery at McMaster University, Judy’s practice is grounded in equity, inclusion, and community connection. Her commitment to social justice and accessible care informs every interaction—ensuring that all families, regardless of background or circumstance, receive compassionate, evidence-informed support during the early weeks of parenthood.
